Idyllic place to stay with excellent hosts and facilities!
This was my first proper trip into the bush and I didn't really
know what to expect. I think Toni and Vincent and the Sunset
lodge setting has ruined any future stays anywhere in the
bush!
Braai-ing on an open fire while watching Zebra, Warthogs,
Impala, tortoise, Ostrich pass through was something else!
The welcome was very friendly and informative, the service
and food was excellent. The rooms are well equipped and
luxurious. The local knowledge and insights provided by Toni
and Vincent really helped expand our knowledge of the
surrounds, the flora, the fauna and the lifestyle of the area.
I would highly recommend the Sunset lodge as an
experience. We will definitely be back!

Simply the best in Hoedspruit
I don’t really know where to begin with this one, so amazing
was the experience! Upon arriving we were met by the lovely,
unflappable and competent Tony. His manner was very
soothing after a long drive. We were in room 7 which was
everything we hoped it would be, containing, amongst other
things, an outdoor shower! It was also beautifully furnished
with an amazing view.
After we had settled in, we met Vince, Tony’s counterpart and
all-round witty chef supreme. We discovered this at dinner
when an aromatic prawn curry of such high standards was.
made, we thought we were in heaven. It turned out that Vince
is a clean eater, makes everything from scratch, everything is
bio, etc. It was lovely. Very good for those Europeans who want
to eat healthily. Eveningly meals if you are not in a group are
communal and conversation just flowed. Herds of buffalos
often graze nearby. Just lovely.
The next day, Tony and Vince took us on a game drive which
was lovely and such fun. So many amazing birds in Guernsey
Private Nature Reserve. All with hilarious on-point running
commentary throughout from Vince.
The staff at Sunset lodge are extremely well-trained which is
not a given in South Africa. They are polite, initiative-taking and
very on-point. The pool and dining areas are beautiful and
everything was just perfect.
Put simply, we are counting the days until we can return!
